There are lots of luxury wristwatches to choose from, but our main focus in this post is Breitling. We will cover a little about its history, noteworthy models and its impressive engineering. Breitling’s usually have this sleek and fascinating look that captures anyone’s attention. They are also known for their precision and use in aviation. It’s among the few brands that submits all chronograph models for COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres) certification testing. The Breitling watches are made for the so-called “big boys” and hence we want to enlighten you more on this amazing brand. But, first of all, let’s have a brief discussion on the history of this watch.

History Of Breitling Watches

The founder of the Breitling watches, Léon Breitling worked tirelessly in his workshop crafting some of the best timepieces in the world as well as many measuring tools. When you truly know your craft, they say you will be rewarded, and that was the case for Léon Breitling. Around 1890, Léon Breitling gained further ground over his competitors not just for his attractive watch designs, but also for his hard work in engineering. Breitling had a special focus on chronographs. Sadly, he passed on in 1914, but that wasn’t the end of his company as his son Gaston took the baton.

Gaston had the same vision and drive just as his father did and that was a testament to the fact that he was able to launch a wrist chronograph in 1915 which was very uncommon for the time. This was the first chronograph with a central second hand and 30 minute timer. After many innovative ideas from Gaston came to reality, he passed on and left the family business to his son, Willy in 1927.

Willy followed in the same footsteps creating many improvements and features including separate push buttons for start/stop and reset. Breitling later collaborated with other prominent watch companies to create the first automatic chronograph. The race was on to create movements powered primarily by the wearer’s natural wrist movements. They may not have been the first to create an automatic chronograph but they were the first to scale to full production and major distribution.
