The Rolex Datejust debuted on Rolex’s 40th aniveriversy in 1945. It marked an important milestone in the watchmaking industry as the first automatic wristwatch with an automatically changing date window, a revolution for the time. The now famous Cyclops lens was added soon after to allow clearer visibility of the date.
